Chilly Temps

First of all, thank you all SO, SO much for your feedback and support in my last post.  Each and every one of your comments really meant the world to me.  I am so thankful for all of you readers! 🙂

Thankfully, after that day of rest, I woke up the next morning with my knee feeling worlds better.  For the past 3 days, I have gone out for slow and steady runs in the frigid temps.  I took some embarrassing pictures to show you just how cold it is outside!

Here I am Tuesday.  I am wearing many different layers.  I’m wearing an underarmour type shirt for my first layer, a blue fleecy jacket for my second layet and a pink windbreaker for my third layer.  Missing from this picture are my ear warmers and gloves that I threw on just as I was walking out the door.  Even with all this on, I froze!  It was 22 degrees outside.  I am not sure what possessed me to run outside instead of going to the gym, but once I was outside there was no turning back!

Introduction:  THE NECK WARMER.  Oh my gosh!  It helped SO much.   I was much warmer on Wednesday thanks to the neck warmer.  No, I don’t look attractive, but I stayed warm(er).   On Wednesday I only wore the pink underarmour shirt and the blue jacket.  The neck warmer seriously helped though!  It was also a little bit warmer than Tuesday with temperatures around 30 degrees.

Oh, and here are my stats from Wednesday’s run.  Have I mentioned how much I love my Garmin?   I seriously don’t know how I ever ran without one!!

Okay, so here I am on Thursday.  I look petrified because I was not really excited for this run.  My mom made me bundle up more than I was, which is why I am wearing this hideous black vest.  She made me do it!  I must admit though, I stayed warm!  My mom and I had a good laugh out the door because I thought I looked funny, then I looked at her!  She looked like an eskimo and said she could barely move, nevermind run.    I tried to snap a pic, but that didn’t go over so well. 😉

For all of you runners that are running in the Disney Marathon this coming weekend:  I HIGHLY recommend purchasing a neck warmer.  It will keep you and your lungs nice and toasty, and it is easy to toss if you get too warm!  Trust me on this one! 🙂

I am still not sure how much running I will continue to do.  I am going to work REALLY hard to focus on listening to my body.  Thankfully my knees feel better *knock on wood* but that doesn’t mean I to am going to continue to run 6 days a week.  I will probably cut down to 4 or 5 for now and try incorporate more yoga and other strength training exercises into my schedule.

For a little update, I have some AWESOME recipes I can’t wait to share with you all!  My mom and I have been hard at work in the kitchen. 🙂  She joked and asked me what I am going to do when I go back to school and don’t have this awesome kitchen and appliances to cook with.  No idea!

The oven just buzzed because my sweet potato fries are finished.  Gotta run!

  1. Your facial expressions in these pictures are priceless! Kudos to you for running in 22 degree weather. I’m definitely not up for that!

Can’t wait to see your new recipes!

    hahaha..i love the facial expression!

and great job for running in that coldness! i though 29 was bad! and all i had was a champion long sleeve shirts and sweatpants. i’m so horrible with cold running.

Haha, love the last pic- you look so happy 😉
Covering your head def. helps with the cold. I never thought about a neck warmer though! I’ve been insisting on running outside too; I think it’s because it’s a little more stimulating

Gosh I don’t think I could get that bundled! I wear capris or tights (whatever’s clean, doesn’t matter) a fleece hat, thin gloves that I take off after a mile and layers of a polypro and a thin fleece on my top. One run my husband and I ran 4 miles at night, 25 degrees, in shorts! (everything else normal) Legs get a bit pink, but otherwise it’s ok! 😉 Love the faces!

I hope you’re enjoying those sweet potato fries. I wouldn’t mind some myself.

Girl, you haven’t seen bundled yet until you see me. I can wear layers and layers and waddle like a penguin and still be cold.

Bundling up is key!! Good for you for listening to your body- no reason to damage it just because you don’t want to miss a run. Taking care of it now is what will keep you running long term 🙂 Hope your knee keeps feeling better!!

  7. I can’t run when I’m all bundled up. Major props to you girl!

There is no way I would go outside for a run when it is 22 degrees outside. My lungs would freeze!! Good for you and am glad to see you are bundling up properly. I’ve been a weenie and have just been doing workout videos from Exercise TV On Demand. I highly recommend the Jillian Michaels circuit training workouts if it’s just too cold outside or you only have about 30 minutes to workout. I love hearing your stories!

good for you for running outside in the cold! i totally hate it and refuse to run outside unless it’s 35 or higher. and not windy. haha

  10. Heather says:

    Love all the layers!

I look very similar when I run outside in the winter. Where did you get the neck warmer? I have never seen one!
